Like the Beacon, this opened when North Lamar was Highway 7 before the 4-lane bypass was built, so it got a lot of customers back in the day, and like the picture below, it gets a lot of customers today. Again, like the Beacon, most of the customers are loyal and have been going to this place for a long time, including a couple of State Troopers normally stop by this place to eat.
The (now former) owner Mr. Handy Andy himself (ironicly) died exactly 3 years ago today in 2009, but many customers knew him and is a very local and nice guy. He has pictures of all of the Basketball State Championships Oxford has won - Boys and Girls (except for this past year for the Girls which I assume is going to be put up at some point) and Lafayette's Football Championships they have won recently. He is a very Basketball guy and has pictures of Ole Miss' Tad Smith Coliseum just about all around the restaurant. Right now, the most recent team football pictures for OHS and LHS are posted in the restaurant.
About that food, this is a normal restaurant that serves burgers and meat, like a normal diner would. You go up to the register and order your food, they give you a number and they will call it when it is ready. The Beacon is more of a traditional sit-down restaurant where a waitress/waiter comes and takes your order.
Their main menu consists a Hamburger or Cheeseburger (Cheese's to choose from: American, Swiss, Pepperjack and Cheddar - if you say nothing, they will put American on) which you can up-grade to a Double or Jumbo. There is also Grilled Chicken, Roast Beef, Ham, Smoked Turkey and Ribeye Steak sandwiches where you can also upgrade to a Jumbo. They also have a Fried Hot Dog, a normal Hot Dog, Corn Dogs (for you LSU fans - had to do it), and a BLT sandwich.
You can buy BBQ, Ham, Roast Beef and Smoked Turkey by the pound and take it with you home. There is also a Chef Salad and a Chicken Tender Plate. Among other items include Jumbo and Regular BBQ plates (or just get them by themselves), a "slab" of ribs, a Rib plate (4 ribs), the "Big Bob" Rib plate (6 ribs), BBQ Nachos and finally there is Pies and Banana Pudding for desert. Drink options include Pepsi products and Coffee or anything out of the grocery area.
Side orders include Cole Slaw, Baked Beans or a Pot Salad (in either 6 oz, 16 oz or 24 oz orders) and of course there is Fries (crinkled) and also Tater Tots.
