It also brings up how Mississippi State fans, student-athletes, students AND coaches (and we all have one name in particular when coaches are mentioned) have been so disrespectful (and at points, extremely classless in their actions) for the past 3+ years. Has Ole Miss fans and students acted the same way as them? Yes, there are times that they have and I can point out the handful of times that they have. However in the past three or so years, there have been MUCH more than a handful of times that they have shown disrespect (on a daily basis), classless acts and just making attacks at Ole Miss fans, players and coaches - and making up parody accounts of the Egg Bowl trophy, and "Hate" accounts directed at Ole Miss with the full intent to be classless and make disrespectful attacks directed at the Ole Miss fan base.
Among a few times this past week where Ole Miss fans have acted wrongly was by texting/calling MSU QB Tyler Russell although the same happened to Ole Miss QB Bo Wallace and a few other players. I even saw where MSU Head Football Coach Dan Mullen's phone number was tweeted up - although I doubt how legitimate the number was but the fact was that a fan tried to do something like that was wrong and classless in itself. Note that I used just fans and students. Unless there was a couple bad seeds in the Watermelon that I missed, I have not seen an Ole Miss student-athlete make a legit attempt to be disrespectful to Mississippi State at any point throughout the past years. There have certainly been no Ole Miss coaches that have disrespected Mississippi State in any way shape or form, Hugh Freeze, Andy Kennedy, nor Mike Bianco or any other coach has more than enough decency to show respect to all opponents and respect the rivalries that Ole Miss has.
Yes, you can certainly think what I am typing is an "attack", but this is a rebuttal to the argument that 'Ole Miss fans say or do the exact same things Mississippi State fans are doing at the same amount of frequency' that I have had thrown at me for several months.
Let's start off with a few quotes from several Mississippi State fans and even sports programs supported by MSU from this past week:
"THIS IS THE DUMBEST S*** EVER, JUST SAYING, YALL ARE CRAZY AS F*** TSUN IF YOU THINK YOU WILL GET THE EGG THIS YEAR! GO TO H*** TSUN"
(In reply to a Rebel fan with short hair who writes a blog herself after replying that she has always been talking for Ole Miss:) "wow that's really cool! So ill ask the most obvious question first, where do you cut hair?"
Bulldog Sports Radio - "...Special guest psychologist will be analyzing (Guest name not revealed)'s deep hatred of TSUN"
"Old Pi** won't be able to say that little cheer next year in Starkville if we can't ring our cowbells. GTH Old Pi**!"
"ain't my fault u can't read or know what I'm talking about tsun homer" - in reply to Neal McCready attempting to decipher an earlier insult (next quote) in which an MSU fan wants to knock the Ole Miss beat-writer out with a "TSUN fruitcake".
"Hope somebody knocks u out with one tsun fruitcake! U bears think u r so funny and cool but u ain't."
"I just find it funny the security measures they are taking over it. Probably costing tsun a few extra dollars!!"
"We have talent. Just no depth.." - yes that really came from an MSU fan after throughout most of the year Ole Miss fans have said the very same thing, this after the Egg Bowl.
"Boy I can't wait for State to beat the PI** out of TSUN. Someone needs to shut the cousin humping law students up."
"TSUN BLACK BEARS FINNA EAT #TweetsFromWhitWaldenInBizarroWorld"
"TSUN fans! What section & row are you sitting in? I want to come see you at the game. I promise I won't text your location to cowbell police."
"I just want to repeat the fact that I HATE TSUN I really look forward to this butt whoopint #BEATTSUN #thisourstate #EggBowl #HailState"
Let's not forget Denzel's jersey taped to the floor with all the scores posted on the door to their workout room and the 4-0 vs. TSUN sign.
And also let's not forget some that were directed at me after clearly winning an argument like this one:
Now let's just go to the Egg Bowl itself and the number of things Mississippi State PLAYERS...and of course Dan Mullen did.
As the Pride of the South Marching Band was doing their normal pre-game routine, the Mississippi State players actually threw water at them while they were on the field. Seriously? Throwing water at the Ole Miss band members? And let's get the moment where the Head Mississippi State Football Coach Dan Mullen was actually caught on ESPNU talking smack to the Ole Miss fans while walking back to the visiting locker room before the game - some coach that shows his true colors about his reckless and disrespectful personality.
Let's go back to the week Mississippi State played Alabama and Ole Miss played Arkansas. That was also the same weekend where the Wheat siblings were killed in the car wreck that happened at the same time the Ole Miss vs. Arkansas game was being played. A Mississippi State student actually had the nerve to tweet out "To think more OleMiss students are focused on State losing rather than the two people who died in the car wreck today". The accident occurred during the Ole Miss game, so many, many students were likely not even aware this tragic event that happened that morning and were actually at the game and were having a great time with their friends at bars or restaurants or even travelling back home without ever checking social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to figure this out and getting only when the Bulldogs suffered their first defeat of the year - the one everyone in the nation that saw MSU's schedule knew could happen after they achieved a 7-0 start. To the ones that did get the message, sure they mourned over the loss of two good people, but there is a much better way to spread the message out than to act like we forgot about them. That disrespectful way of doing it is not one of them. It does not serve the Wheat's any justice to serve the tragic news like that.
Let's fold over to the week Ole Miss played Alabama and they have just achieved a 7-6 lead on Alabama, the first time Alabama had trailed all season to that point. The Rebels promptly give up a Kickoff Return for a Touchdown. Every single Bulldog fan was letting the Ole Miss fans have it, as bad if not worse than how Ole Miss fans responded to Mississippi State's beatdown at the hands of Alabama. Then respond like we are not supposed to be celebrating their loss. There is a term for this and that is being a hypocrite, which many Mississippi State fans act nearly every weekend when Ole Miss has something to celebrate about.
Whenever Ole Miss gets to celebrate something, it is ALWAYS scolded down by the Mississippi State fans, even MSU student-athletes and coaches get into it. Just see what happened when Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State in Basketball last year when it was played at Ole Miss.
Here's a news-flash for Mississippi State: TSUN ("The School Up North") is a disrespectful and classless term to Ole Miss - created by a coach who always disrespects and is classless to Ole Miss and never calls them by their proper name who has created an unhealthy rivalry with the fans that is not sustainable by showing that disrespecting Ole Miss is okay in society, yet it is not okay when the same is done to the ones that dish it out. The disrespecting term is used everyday - just think about that. The nickname which I cannot throw up here where the M is replaced with a P in Ole Miss - you can figure it out.
Let's continue to other classless acts like taking a picture with the Egg Bowl trophy on the thousandth consecutive day of possession. Throwing full water bottles onto the court after losing to Kentucky in basketball - a move which ESPN analysts have suggested banning everyone from attending their next home game. A baseball player throwing the "we're #1" at Arkansas fans a couple years back. Their disrespectful marketing ploy of "This is OUR State" and all puns and parody's to it like "This is OUR trophy" shirts the players wore - much of which is finally coming back to haunt them now that they no longer hold possession of the Egg Bowl trophy. The "special" jerseys MSU decided to wear for the past two Egg Bowls and hashtagging the end zones for the game played in Starkville last year - and no doubt next year. When All-American Defensive Lineman Channing Ward committed to Ole Miss - Death Threats were posted to his Twitter account by MSU fans and students for not committing to MSU at an alarming pace to the point where a Daily Journal Sports Writer even wrote a blog on the threats. When Ole Miss made a self-inflected wound with the "riot" earlier this month, MSU fans were all over it and made more disrespecting insults instead of helping the situation. There is so many incidents that I cannot remember them all; but when any bad news comes out of Ole Miss - sports related or not - these fans over and over tee off with every incident with endless crap and usually with the equally disrespecting TSUN reference added to it.
Now, with all that said - does everyone do it that is a Mississippi State fan? No, of course not. Do some Ole Miss fans get carried away when bad stuff happens at Mississippi State? Yes, of course a few people do, but just like the "riots" which apparently gave all of roughly 20,000 students a bad name by not just MSU but throughout the nation, it is started by just 30-40 numbskulls that cannot control themselves. What MSU fans do on a daily basis is not by just 30-40 people, it is hundreds if not thousands of people disrespecting Ole Miss. When the 200 or so people from Ole Miss do anything within shouting distance related to that (where Ole Miss' closest thing to disrespecting MSU is calling it "Moo U" with the respect to their cowbell use), it is blown extremely out of proportion. This is where the unhealthy part comes in which Dan Mullen has instilled on the fan base and students at Mississippi State.
To the credit of both sides, the Mississippi State fans were awfully quiet when Ole Miss won Saturday and the Rebels not just celebrated the Egg Bowl win but becoming Bowl Eligible as well - along with the Ole Miss video department having fun of "We're not ever losing to this team again!" Speech Mullen gave two years ago. There are some - like always - that will stretch this out, but I would not be surprised if Hugh Freeze has his team focused on what bowl they will go to and finishing up class than celebrating the Egg Bowl victory. The rest of the Rebel fan base should be as well. No, it's not the Cotton Bowl or anything like that, but Ole Miss will play one more football game - one more than Freeze and much of the national media thought they were going to play before the season started.
But it is sure nice to sit down at the computer and not have to really deal with other fans for another 365 days of smack talk. It is nice to just sit down and be quiet surfing the internet, and that is just how Ole Miss fans like it. It certainly keeps both sides out of trouble.
