It will be until at least around the Monday after Labor Day until it will officially open. The workers inside BWW (or "B-Dubs") must have 10 days to train and I was told they started Wednesday.
So, as a substitute, I decided to head to the one in Tupelo. I was expecting the one in Oxford to be open but this will have to do. It is the first time I've gone outside Oxford - let alone go further than a mile from the city limits - to eat a pregame meal.
B-Dubs has a slogan I'm sure everyone has heard at least once: "Wings, Beer, Sports."
With wings in the restaurant name, yes it is basically a large sports bar with lots of wings and beer to go around.
Sorry about the slobber, man THAT was embarrassing!
Among their main menu besides wings which I will get to, they have Chicken Tenders (either fried or grilled - cannot sell chicken wings without chicken tenders), Popcorn Shrimp or have them together, Black & Bleu (Cheese Dressing) Burger, The Big Jack Daddy Burger (Cheddar Jack Chesse w/ Honey BBQ Pulled Pork), Pulled Pork Sandwich, along with four other different types of burgers you can enjoy (all those items served with a side of fries). You can even "Build Your Own Burger" where you can add all the fixings and all the "Extras" (those being Bacon, Chili, Pulled Pork and Sliced Steak).
There are also 3 different types of Flatbread options and 5 different Salad options on the menu as well to go along with all the juicy stuff. As like many restaurants, there is a kids menu featuring many simple options from the normal menus and also includes Mac & Cheese.
In terms of desserts, not much really. They have just Ice Cream and Chocolate Fudge Cake for options, but after the rest of the menu, I doubt you will have room for that anyways.
Now, many items on the menu has a choice of sauce. B-Dubs specializes in a lot of sauces. Here are your 16 choices in order from mild to very hot: Sweet BBQ, Teriyaki, Mild, Parmesan Garlic, Medium, Honey BBQ, Spicy Garlic, Jammin' Jalapeno, Asian Zing, Caribbean Jerk, Thai Curry, Hot BBQ, Hot, Mango Habanero, Wild, and finally Blazin'.
In terms of drinks - well one of their words in their slogan is "Beer." B-Dubs has a wide range of draft and bottled beer - which of course requires an ID. Never fear, they serve Coke products, Iced Tea, Coffee, Lemonades, Limeades, and Red Bull. With the exception of beer, all drinks have free refills.
Now finally about those wings, you have the choice between Traditional (bone-in) and Boneless. You can get your wings in any of the 16 sauces mentioned before. For traditional counts, they come in 6, 12, 18, 24 and 50. For Boneless they come in 8, 12, 18, 24 and 50. If you like both, you can get a 6 & 6 combo. All wing orders include Celery or Carrots - basically as a cool-your-mouth-down snack - and either bleu cheese or ranch dressing.
Besides their amazing menu choices, they offer weekly specials and holiday specials. For example, this Labor Day weekend, you can get 20 wings available for takeout for a discounted price. Weekly specials include "Wing Tuesdays" and "Boneless Thursdays". Wing Tuesdays you can get traditonal wings for a discounted price per wing. Boneless is the exact same way for Boneless wings on Thursday. These specials however do not include Celery or Carrots.
I arrived as soon as it opened and got a lunch special - which was 8 Traditonal Wings w/ Fries and Carrot Sticks (you can get Celery with Ranch Dressing instead). Also because I was their first customer of the day (and I have no idea if Oxford will do this or not), I got a free appetizer to my order (which I chose the mini Corn Dogs). Currently they have a guarantee with their lunch specials. It will be on the table in 15 minutes or that order is free - that's right free. Like Pizza Guys used to do if they can't get to your door in 30 minutes or less. They did beat the clock by 2 1/2 minutes, but that is some pressure they put on the cooks. The lunch specials last until 2 PM.
It is a no wonder everybody in Oxford - I mean EVERYbody - is excited for Oxford's Buffalo Wild Wings to finally be open. We just have to suffer the pain just ONE - MORE - WEEK! Just hold on, it is coming!
I may have to go out of town during next year's Crosstown Classic, never did it before and we won! Well, let's wait until next year to make that choice.
