Anywho, we are well into Football Season now, and for this week I went to Proud Larry's on the Square. It is located at the very northern tip of South Lamar and on the same side of the street that the Rib Cage of Oxford is on (where I went for Week 2 earlier this year).
I did not realize how good of a picture that is with the sun shining on it....
Here is their website if you want to look at it, pretty good stuff.
They have bands and such perform almost every other night and especially the weekends (although they tried to do a "big show" the night of the Crosstown Classic this year which was on TV... ... ... I'll leave it at that).
As far as food goes, they serve up quite a bit. Their menu is divided into six sections, those are: Appetizers, Salads, Sandwiches, Pastas, Pizzas and Calzones, Children's Menu, and on Sunday - Brunch.
Their Appetizers consist of Fries, Fried Mushrooms, Fried Ravioli, Mozzarella Sticks, Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Larry's House-made Salsa & Chips, Bread Sticks, and all kinds of Quesadillas.
Their salads include a choice between 7 dressings along with 8 different kinds of salads including a normal "House" salad. You can add Chicken, Gulf Shrimp and/or Blackened Tuna for an extra cost.
All of their sandwiches come with Larry's seasoned fries or sweet-potato fries. A House or Caesar salad can be substituted for extra. They have seven different sandwiches to choose from anywhere from a Catfish sandwich to a Veggie Burger. You can add any of 6 cheeses along with bacon, grilled mushrooms, roasted garlic, and grilled peppers or onions for an extra cost.
Among their Pizzas, they have 9 specialty pizzas but you can also make your own 10" or 14" pizza from a variety of toppings.
Among their Calzones, there are four different kinds and you can make any specialty pizza a calzone, so really there are 13 different choices. You can also create your own Calzone.
Their Children's Menu includes dishes like Little Alfredo, Butter and Parmesan Pasta, Little Pomodoro Pasta, Grilled Cheese and Fries, Chicken Tenders and Fries, and a Slice of Cheese Pizza.
The Brunch items are only available between 11AM-2PM on Sunday, most are breakfest items like Benedict eggs, Grits, Omelettes, Biscuits and Gravy, and there is a Breakfast Burrito. Side items include Biscuits, Sausage Patties, Cheese Grits, Home Fries, English Muffins and Bacon.
Drinks besides your normal Coke and Water options include Tea, cocktail drinks, and a number of bottled or tap beer.
For this trip, I chose the Larry's Creole Catfish off the Sandwich menu - one of the more expensive items. It is a pan-seared Mississipopi catfish filet on French Bread with the normal fixings along with Larry's house-made sauce on the side.
Dependant on what you get, you can easily run up a $15-20 bill per person before tip. This is however a one-of-a-kind place to stop. Check out their website to see when they are hosting a band or other performances.
This place is typically packed on weekends, so if you are there to eat, try to avoid the weekends and come for some lunch on a weekday - unless you want to go there for their shows. Their food is great and they can provide some good entertainment. It's not hard to find, it is literally right in-front of the Courthouse in the center of Oxford.
