- Oxford Boys Basketball played three teams from three different states in the Great 8 Classic held in Jefferson City, MO - none of which bordered Mississippi (played a team each from Missouri, Kentucky, and Oklahoma / Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Alabama border Mississippi).
- Oxford Girls Basketball went 2-1 in the Gibson County Tournament. All 3 teams they played were from Tennessee.
- Oxford will have four Basketball games on the radio (both Boys & Girls). They will be at Olive Branch (January 7), at West Point (January 21), at Saltillo (February 4), and at New Hope (February 7).
- Oxford Boys did not allow a 3-point basket against Pontotoc last night (PHS went 0-for-13), while hitting 13 (OHS went 13-for-25).
- Both Oxford Soccer teams will play their first games since December 20th, 2013 - both of which are makeup games - to be held at FNC Park. Girls are playing Pontotoc (was rained out), and the Boys will play Jackson Prep (also rained out that was to be played in Ridgeland). A total of 9 Soccer matches (4 by JV teams, 5 by Varsity teams) will be played by all Oxford Soccer teams tomorrow at FNC Park.
- Ole Miss played Georgia Tech two previous times in Bowl games - once in the Sugar Bowl (1953) and once in the Peach Bowl (1971). Georgia Tech won the Sugar while Ole Miss won the Peach. Ole Miss won the Music City Bowl this year by a score of 25-17. They will meet later on in 2017 (in Oxford) and in 2018 (in Atlanta) in the regular season.
- Georgia Tech is the first school to have won all four of the major bowls (those being Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, and Orange) and completed that feat in 1955 - but their last trip to one of those bowls was in 1967 (Orange).
- With Ole Miss defeating Georgia Tech, the Rebels move into a tie for 9th with the Yellow Jackets and the LSU Tigers in all-time bowl wins with 23. Auburn could also move into that tie with a win in the BCS National Championship Game.
- Ole Miss now has the longest active bowl winning streak, having won their last six bowls (2002 Independence, 2004 Cotton, 2009 Cotton, 2010 Cotton, and 2013 Compass, and 2013 Music City Bowl)
- Ole Miss technically won its first game over an ACC opponent since...Georgia Tech way back in 1971 in the Peach Bowl. While Pitt is now in the ACC, they were in the Big East when Ole Miss faced them last season.
