Many things have come in three's for the Chargers this academic year. Probably the only thing that hasn't come in threes is the number of State Championships Oxford has won this year - 5. Those came in Boys Cross Country (4th overall title), Girls Basketball (4th), Tennis (7th), Boys Golf (3rd) and Girls Track (3rd). Along with that there have been several individual Championships won this year. We had an individual win the Boys Cross Country title, we had an all-Oxford Doubles Title in Tennis, several winners in Track specifically in the High Jump, Pole Vault, Triple Jump and Long Jump and the 4x400m relay (I'm sure I'm missing a few).
Boys Golf and Girls Basketball has won a Championship for the first time in 14 years, the longest drought between Championships in a single sport Oxford has ever had. Boys Cross Country for the first time in 13 years. Tennis and Girls Track managed to defend their titles from last year. Tennis for the fifth time in a row (the most in a row in any sport in school history), Girls Track for the third time.
Which brings us back to the number three. I'm fixing to list every single thing that came in a three this year:
3 - months to the day between the time Girls Basketball faced South Jones in the regular season and in the 5A Championship Game (December 3rd - March 3rd)
March 3rd - third month on the third day of the year 2012 the Girls Basketball team won the state championship
33 - number of games Girls Basketball won in its undefeated season
3 - current championships for the Girls Track and Boys Golf program
3 - previous championships for the Boys Cross Country and Girls Basketball Program prior to this season
3-peat - Girls Basketball had a three-peat the last time they won a state championship and Girls Track is on one now
3rd Round - the Round Oxford Baseball and Girls Soccer managed to get to this year
3 - the number of seasons it took Head Coach Shane Linzy before he won his first Gold Ball in Girls Basketball
3 - the number Murray State signee PG Erika Sisk wore on their way to an undefeated season
3 - State Championships won in a week time span during the second week of May
3 - straight High Jump championships for Justin Fondren including this year
3 - times we played Saltillo on Friday the 13th this year (Girls & Boys Basketball in January, Baseball in April), oh yeah, also played exactly 3 months apart.
I'm sure I'm missing a few threes but I'm hoping come football season that #3 Parker Adamson (there it is again) brings us to our first State Championship in football.
