#9 - Zoe Scruggs
One of the leaders for the Girls Soccer team and one that has been named a captain of the team for the past two years. One that would also like to end the playoff rut they've been in on offense.
Playing Center Midfield throughout her Charger career, she has been on to help lead the offensive attack. Center Midfield is a position that's more geared to an offense position. In the past in a 4-4-2 that former coach Laura Flint liked to run, that puts a Center Midfielder almost like a third forward to sometime take a Center Forward role.
With new coach Hunter Crane coming in and a type of style he wants his players to bring with, offense should come a little easier than a coach who was defensive minded. While Crane has said he wasn't going to change too much in terms of what formation to attack other teams with, being better at finishing shots should be a emphasis this upcoming season.
Scruggs hasn't had a whole lot of change within the soccer team the past couple years, with a core of 5-6 girls still on the team from two seasons ago. Oxford only graduated three seniors last year and just one the year before that.
One of the few things Scruggs would like to change is winning the division, something that came very easily in the years before she came up to high school. With New Hope entering the mix in the soccer division, that will be a little bit harder. Another is scoring at will. Before the last coaching change, the Lady Chargers were the ones always fighting Ridgeland for the right to get to the State Title game. That happened three times but were not successful once.
Since then, Oxford has not made it back to North Half and is currently in a scoring drought in the playoffs having not scored in the last 239 minutes - the last non-PK-shootout goal was scored by Scruggs against Center Hill in the first round of the 2014 playoffs. Scruggs will now lead the offensive attack after the departure of two forwards from last year, but with a new coach in the mix that is a little more offensive-minded, it should be easier this year.
Scruggs will likely be the head captain of this team this year, and with a list of goals to accomplish before she leaves, Scruggs doesn't want to leave this team without accomplishing a lot.
