#9 - Janiesha Johnson
Easily the best player Oxford had on the court all last year after Kyla Malone went down with an injury and Johnson had to move to the 5 on the court and then others had gone down to injuries before the season. Johnson had to step up this past year and was called upon more often than not to provide the offense for the Girls Basketball Team this season.
She led the team in points (by a lot), shot attempts (by a lot), free throw attempts and percentage, rebounds. field goal percentage, and minutes played (by a lot). Most of these stats are not even close. The next closest player in a number of these stats was Bre Pettis (in the games I kept stats on, Pettis played in 130 less minutes than Johnson and took 80+ fewer shot attempts).
Luckily with the three players returning from injuries (all three good offensive players) and all the experience gained by the younger players having to play last year, Johnson will likely be more effective instead of carrying a LeBron James Cleveland-ish load for the team. Malone will get some attention drawing away from Johnson who should have a somewhat easier time scoring and getting rebounds.
Johnson also participates in Girls Track (as you can see in the picture above) where she helped earn a 3rd place finish at the State Meet. She participates in the jumping events (Long Jump, Triple Jump) as the team looks towards getting back towards the top like during the 3-peat run a few years ago.
Let's hope we didn't transport the injury bug from the old Gym to the new one.
