| Oxford Volleyball has been at Tupelo High School three times over the past month putting in some matches along with area high school teams to prepare themselves for the upcoming season next month. The games they played were 3-set matches where the first to win 2 sets wins the match. For those not familiar with the rules, the first to 25 points and to win by 2 points in a set wins the set. They cannot win the set by a score of 25-24, they must win by two points to secure a set victory. If the match heads to a deciding set, it is the first to 15 points instead of 25 but must still win by 2 points to claim the set. Each team is given two timeouts per set but cannot carry them over to the next set. Normally matches in high school are played in 5 sets at the Varsity level where the first to 3 sets wins the match. The first weekend occured June 29th in which Oxford participated in 3 matches. The first match Oxford defeated Amory 2-0 (26-24, 25-8). In the second match, they won against Starkville 2-0 (25-17, 25-18). Against Tupelo in the third match they lost 2-0 (25-3, 25-9) In the second weekend that was played July 6th, Oxford played another 3 matches. Oxford won the first match against Pontotoc 2-0 (25-8, 25-22). Oxford won the second match against Tupelo's 2nd Squad 2-1 (25-14, 20-25, 15-12). Oxford then lost in the last match to crosstown rival Lafayette 2-1 (25-21, 11-25, 15-12). In their third trip to THS, Oxford played in two matches but were scheduled for three. It is not known whatever they played the third match against Starkville or not. In the first game, Oxford won over Starkville 2-1 (21-25, 25-9, 15-13). In their second game, Oxford defeated Tupelo's 2-Squad 2-0 (25-20, 25-19). Oxford went 6-2 overall during the Summer Volleyball Tournament and got some very good experience against area opponents heading into the Volleyball Season. Their season starts August 3rd in the Set it Off Challenge. |
