It is also my yearly 4-day/3-night Vacation time in the OHS Baseball Press Box that I get for free. That would be the Oxford Spring Break Tournament. 23 Games over 4 days, but I will get to that soon.
This is a big Spring Break in Oxford sports coming up. Oxford & Lafayette meet three times during the break, twice in Baseball, once in Softball. They do meet on the track but its not head-to-head.
It starts off Friday at Lafayette as both Baseball and Softball teams will try to get wins against the Crosstown Rival. Both JV games start at 5, Varsity at 7. Saturday is the Oxford Eagle Invitational for Track & Field. Oxford is the host but they are hardly the main attractions. Kalio Moore - 2013 Ole Miss football signee -, and DK Buford - 2014 Ole Miss football commit - are the two fastest runners in the state and will be competing in the 100 meter dash. Moore is of 2A West Bolivar and Buford is of course the Lafayette speedster in 4A - so this is likely one of the rare times they will meet up. Buford also plays Baseball, so unless they meet up at the Ole Miss & MSU meets, this may be the only time you will see them head-to-head. They will both race in the 100 meter dash event. Moore will also run the 200 meter dash and likely the 4x100 and 4x200 relay events as well. That night, Oxford Baseball will finally have its home opener against Tupelo Christian Prep. JV starts at 5, Varsity at 7. Then Monday through Thursday of Spring Break, Edwin Moak Field will be Baseball Central. Four out of state teams will compete and 23 Games will be played - including Oxford's home matchup with Lafayette with an estimated start time of 8:15 PM on Thursday. Oxford has a total of 4 Varsity games and one JV game for the Tournament. Baseball continues playing the following Saturday at Tupelo in a Tri-Match as Oxford will face Starkville at 1 PM, then play Tupelo at 4 PM. Starkville & Tupelo will play each other after the two Oxford games. Tennis will have a match this Friday @ New Albany before having the rest of the break off. Softball will also play the Monday of Spring Break @ Water Valley. So if you are stuck in Oxford for Spring Break - never fear, there are Oxford sporting events near. (Especially near Edwin Moak Field Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). |
