It opened 10 years ago in its current location on The Square along South Lamar and like many restaurants in Oxford, offers catering services especially for Ole Miss football games. This is one of the more local restaurants in town and as far as I know it does not have a chain.
A normal meal can run you anywhere between $10-$20 depending of course what you decide to get on the menu - and there is a big choice of items to choose from. If you want to cater to a special event, there are such items on the menu that specifically satisfy your needs.
Each SEC Coach from Lane Kiffin's one trip with his stint at Tennessee to Steve Spurrier in South Carolina that has been to Oxford at least once has signed photos on the wall near the restaurant bar. Yes, even that Maroon Head Coach down in Starkville has one up there too. Among the notables that are on the wall are LSU's Les Miles, Texas Tech's Tommy Tuberville (former Ole Miss & Auburn coach), Alabama's Nick Saban, and Duke's David Cutcliffe (another former Ole Miss head coach) among others. Of course all the Ole Miss coaches in the last 10 years each have a photo up including Cutcliffe, "Coach 'O'", Houston Nutt (both as the Arkansas coach and as the Ole Miss coach), and Hugh Freeze has his up there.
There are several TV's (and they are always on sports channels like ESPN) in the restaurant and there is also a full bar downstairs during Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights (of course needing to be 21 to actually enter those). There is a bar upstairs (as mentioned before) where beer is sold on tap.
Of course outside of beer, they sell the usual drinks (Coke products here for the soda choices) and a wide range of food.
Among the Appetizer choices include Chips & Salsa to BBQ Nachos, Quesadillas, Hot Wings (by the dozen) and Drumsticks - and (oh yeah,) Ribs.
Underneath the Ribs & Sandwiches portion of the menu, you have 46 - yes 46 - different choices, and a bunch more different ways to actually order any of the 46 items. Those items include - but not limited too - Ribs, Chicken Thighs, Ribs, Drumsticks, Quail, Ribs, All kinds of Ham, Turkey Sandwiches, Ribs, Tenderloin, Ham, Pulled BBQ or Sliced Chicken Platter (or Toaster or Sandwich or Sandwich Plate - all include Kielbasa), did I mention Ribs? I mean this IS the Rib Cage.
Like most restaurants, salads are served for those watching those pounds and there is a Fresh Garden Salad choice. Because of the family atmosphere that is on the top floor, there is a kids menu available and has kids choices like Hot Dogs, Grilled Cheese and smaller Rib portions that they can eat.
Because this is the South, you got to have South choices for side items - such as Beans, Slaw, Potato Salad, and the Hickory Baked Potato. They also have chips, Cheese Sticks, Salsa, and Pickles.
I went for an appetizer choice (and mainly because they are the only one's that serve this item in town) in the BBQ Nachos. It is on a basic nacho chips with nacho cheese spread all over the chips and BBQ sauce are then spread all over the cheese already on it. It comes with Jalapenos in a cup on the side if you choose to be daring.
The Rib Cage is one of the best kept secrets in Oxford. You WILL leave happy about what you ate no matter the choice. It is money well spent. It is not hard to find because of the fact it is just "off the Square."
